NAD+ Supplements (NMN / NR) Dosage: How Much & How Often

NR ~250-500 mg/day or NMN ~250-1000 mg/day by mouth; both raise blood NAD+, but benefit in healthy adults is unproven.

Evidence-based answer

Oral NAD+ precursors are usually taken as nicotinamide riboside (NR) at about 250-500 mg per day or nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) around 250-1000 mg per day. Human trials show these raise blood NAD+ levels and are generally well tolerated, but clinical benefits in healthy adults remain mostly unproven. NAD+ itself is poorly absorbed orally.

What the evidence shows

  • Controlled trials show oral NR raises blood NAD+ in a dose-dependent way and is well tolerated (PMID 29599478).
  • A placebo-controlled trial found NMN improved muscle insulin sensitivity in prediabetic women (PMID 33888596).

What it does not show

  • Increases in blood NAD+ have not reliably translated into measured clinical benefits in healthy adults.
  • Long-term safety and any anti-aging claims remain unproven.

Safety & cautions

  • Generally well tolerated in trials; mild GI effects possible.
  • Safety in pregnancy and during cancer treatment is not established — clear with a clinician.
  • Not a treatment for any condition.
